72 Mile Race or Ride
  • The 72 Mile Bike ride will start and finish in front of Zephyr Cove Lodge, which is 4 miles East of the Stateline in Nevada on the South Shore of  Lake Tahoe.

  • There will be a 6 hour time limit for the 72 mile race/ride. (7am to 1pm)

  • We have added a Tandem Bike division using the same guide time guide lines for finishing.

  •  American Tour de France winner Greg Lemond who legend has it, rode the 72 mile course in 3 hours and 15 minutes when he was a student in the Reno area. We have had a few dozen athletes go under 3 hours.

  • All finishers will receive a cyclist finishers medal and event shirt.

  • There will be a special award for any  72 mile cyclists who finishes under 3:00, 3:30 or  4 hours.

  • There will be a awards for riders who finish first in the open and 40+ age divisions

  • Orientation meeting 6 PM Friday at TBA

  • Race day number pickups for the 72-mile bike will be at Zephyr Cove on race morning.

  • Number pickup Sunday from 6 - 6:50 am (Be early with your photo ID and a six pack of beer procrastination fee.)

  • Starts will be organized by riders using anticipated speed with the fastest riders in the front.

  • The ride will be clockwise around Lake Tahoe.

  • Police will escort and pace  the pack through the first 9 miles and 24  stop lights of the 72 Mile Ride.

  • After the first 9 miles there is only 3 stop lights and a couple of stop signs remaining.

  • There are two stop lights in Kings Beach and a pedestrian light at the Stateline at Crystal Bay and a few stop signs along Lake Shore Blvd in Incline Village that must be obeyed if not controlled by traffic police.

  • The last 8 miles is down hill or flat and 4 lanes

  • There will be three water bottle exchange stations at Emerald Bay, Tahoe City, and Incline Village.

  • This is not a closed course.

  • Riders must obey all traffic rules.

  • Riders must use caution at all times

  • Riders must ride single file except to pass.

  • The elevation gain for the 72 Mile ride is 3985' gain.
